Martin Luther King, Jr. Center

In the picture at the left, City of Wilmington Recreation Division Manager Travis Adams shows off the newly refurbished gymnasium at the MLK Center.

The Martin Luther King, Jr. Community Center will reopen to the public with an Open House from 9:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m. on Saturday, February 23. The Center has been closed since last year to undergo renovations funded by the 2006 Parks and Greenspace Bond.

Renovations include a new outside entrance awning, refurbished gym floors and installation of new flooring throughout, new windows and doors, kitchen upgrades, and renovations to restrooms and shower facilities to meet ADA standards. A reconfiguration of space was also developed for more efficient use of space for staff and the community.

Activities at the open house will include tours of the facility, entertainment and demonstrations. The Martin Luther King, Jr. Community Center is located at 401 S. 8th Street in Wilmington.
