A portion of 17th Street near Independence Boulevard will be closed March 14-16 in order to make additional repairs to the Northeast Interceptor (NEI) sewer force main. The work was originally scheduled to begin on March 7; however, due to inclement weather and adverse working conditions, it has been rescheduled to start on March 14.
This road closure is needed to replace approximately 1,300 feet of pipe which runs along Independence Boulevard, near the Cameron Art Museum. The repair is not necessary to lift the ongoing moratorium, but is being done as a precautionary measure.
17th Street will be closed between Independence Boulevard and the entrance to the museum, beginning at 7 p.m. on Friday, March 14, and will reopen no later than 6 a.m. on Monday, March 17. Electronic message boards and signage are being set up to notify motorists. Notices will be hand-delivered to affected businesses.
The pipe replacement is expected to be completed within four to five weeks.
