The City of Wilmington will hold a kickoff meeting on for the South Side Small Area Plan on October 14 at 6:30 p.m. at the Martin Luther King, Jr. Center, located at 401 S. 8th Street. The public forum will include a discussion on development in the Southside area and information about options for future growth.
The city is seeking input from the public for a plan that will outline how the area should be redeveloped. The Southside is facing increased pressure for redevelopment as space for development in the core downtown area dwindles. There is an increased demand for "mixed use" development in this area, which means combining work, retail and commercial space into one area. The Southside area is roughly bounded by the river to the west, 17th Street to the east, Queen Street to the north and Greenfield Lake to the south.
