The city will hold its final meeting for the Wrightsville Avenue Land Use Plan on Thursday, February 25 from 6:30 – 8:00 p.m. in the fellowship hall of the Winter Park Baptist Church, located at 4700 Wrightsville Avenue. This open house will give the public an opportunity to review the draft recommendations of the plan, which were prepared with the help of citizen input.
The Wrightsville Avenue Land Use Plan outlines development guidelines for the Wrightsville Avenue corridor. The plan was first adopted in 1990 to guide future growth along the corridor by establishing regulations for land use, urban design and transportation management. At the time, the study area terminated at the 1990 city limits just east of Hawthorne Drive near the Cape Fear Hospital.
Since that time, Wrightsville Avenue has undergone many changes, such as additional development and road improvements, that have impacted the form and function of the corridor. The planning area now extends the length of Wrightsville Avenue from South 17th Street to the eastern city limits at the base of the Wrightsville Beach drawbridge.
