City welcomes Don Rypkema

The City of Wilmington, along with the Historic Wilmington Foundation and Wilmington Downtown, welcome Mr. Donovan Rypkema to Wilmington on Thursday, April 15. Mr. Rypkema, a recognized leader in the economics of historic preservation, will be speaking on "The Competitive Downtown and the Impacts of Historic Preservation." The presentation, which is free and open to the public, will take place at City Hall, located at 102 N. Third St. at 6 p.m.

Mr. Rypkema has provided services addressing historic preservation in 49 states and more than 30 countries for government and non-profit organizations. He is also the author of several publications.

Rypkema will tour downtown and meet with stakeholders and government leaders to discuss the impacts of historic preservation on economic development. This event gives the general public the opportunity to learn more about economic revitalization of downtowns, the rehabilitation of historic structures and the environmental power of historic preservation. Mr. Rypkema's visit is timely as the city is currently reviewing its regulations to identify additional options for helping to preserve historic buildings in the downtown area.
