Offense: Common Law Robbery
Summary: WPD officers responded to an alarm from the business. The store employee, age 30, reported that she was on the phone inside the store when a man rushed in, saying that he needed money. He pushed the employee behind the counter. (He had his hand in his pocket as if he had a gun, but the employee did not see a weapon). The employee opened the register and handed the man some cash. Then the robber ran out and was last seen heading toward N. 5th Avenue. The robber is described as a black male, 30 - 40 years of age, about 5'4", 170 - 180 lbs. The victim said the robber had dreds and a beard with some gray in it. He was wearing a heavy black jacket and black pants, and a do-rag that he pulled over his face during the robbery. Time: Reported on Tuesday morning; offense occurred during the night.
Location: 400 block Drake Court
Summary: The man and woman living in the residence reported that someone came into their home while they were sleeping. The female victim said that when she got up on Tuesday morning, she found her purse on the floor. Her wallet was open and cash had been taken from the wallet. There were no signs of forced entry to the residence, and the victims confirmed that the door had been unlocked for part of the night.
Time: 10:30 p.m. – Monday night
Location: 4400 block Market Street
Offense: Common law robbery
Summary: The male victim, age 53, reported that he was attacked and robbed behind a building. The victim, who is homeless, said he was sitting on a piece of cardboard behind a business when two men approached from a nearby alley and demanded money. The victim said one of the men started punching and kicking him, while the other took his wallet containing cash and the victim’s NC Food Stamp card. Then the robbers left the area on foot, headed south on S. Kerr Avenue. The victim described his attackers as appearing to be Hispanic, both approximately 25 – 30 years old. He said they were about 5’4” tall and 150-160 lbs., and both were wearing shorts and t-shirts. One of the men was wearing a baseball cap. The victim was transported to New Hanover Regional Medical Center for treatment of severe bruising and contusions to both sides of his face. The case is under investigation.
