Next phase of Cross-City Trail

Construction for the next section of the Gary Shell Cross-City Trail began during the week of Feb. 21 and is scheduled to be complete by this fall.

The section of the trail that is being built is approximately 3.4 miles and travels from the intersection of Randall Parkway and South College Road, around the UNCW campus, along Rose Avenue. This phase will also include sidewalks and on-road bike lanes on Mallard Street, Rill Road and Teal Street.

This section is funded by $2 million in federal stimulus funding and $250,000 received from the North Carolina Department of Transportation.

About five miles of the Cross-City trail are already complete. Once finished, the entire trail will be approximately 20 miles long and stretch from Wade Park in the south end of the city to the Wrightsville Beach drawbridge.
