Azalea Garden Tour in Greenfield Park

On Friday, the Azalea Festival will come back to where it all began in 1948.

The opening ceremony and ribbon-cutting for the annual Cape Fear Garden Tour will be held Friday at 10 a.m. at the amphitheater in the city's Greenfield Lake Park. The amphitheater is located at 1941 Amphitheater Drive. The Wilmington City Council named the amphitheater in honor of Dr. Hugh Morton, the Azalea Festival’s first president and one of its founding fathers.

Following the ribbon-cutting ceremony, the Queen’s Garden Party will be held across the street from the amphitheater at the world’s largest rotary wheel. Ticketholders will then visit the first garden on the tour, which is Greenfield Park’s Fragrance Garden located beside the amphitheater.

The Cape Fear Garden Club donated $5,000 to the city for new plants and irrigation for the rotary wheel, amphitheater and Fragrance Garden areas.
