||This week, the city began a project to help ease traffic by realigning the intersection at Masonboro Loop and Masonboro Sound roads and Pine Grove Drive.
An open house on the project will be held on June 16. City staff will be on hand to answer questions and provide information. The public is invited to drop in anytime between 5-7 pm at Masonboro Fire Station, located at 3335 Masonboro Loop Road.
The $735,000 project will change the intersection so that Masonboro Loop Road traffic flows into Pine Grove Drive. Masonboro Sound Road will form a “T” at the intersection and a stop sign will be added for approaching traffic. Other road improvements include drainage improvements, road widening and construction of turning lanes for the Courtyard at Masonboro and Andrews Reach. This will help alleviate the traffic back up on Masonboro Loop Road during rush hour and also provide a safer traffic pattern.
Construction will continue through the fall. While work is underway, delays and temporary closures are expected with Beasley Road recommended as an alternate route.
All businesses in the Courtyard at Masonboro and those located in the construction area will remain open and accessible. The intersection will remain open to local traffic.
The city regrets any inconvenience this project may cause. Visit wilmingtonnc.gov/masonboro or the city's Facebook page for more information and updates.
