Energy efficiency updates

Installation of an energy efficient roof began this week at Thalian Hall as part of a $1 million federal grant the city has received. The installation is expected to be complete in September and will not impact activities at Thalian Hall or City Hall.

The new roof will help better insulate the building, reducing heating and cooling costs. According to energystar.gov, as much as half of the energy used in a building or home typically goes to heating and cooling. Any improvements made that affect heating and cooling will result in significant savings on utility bills.

The funding will be used to make improvements in several city facilities, including lighting, plumbing, new water heater controls and thermostats, as well as solar panels at the Fleet facility on River Road. All work is expected to be completed late this fall.
