River to Sea Bike Ride

The 23rd Annual River to Sea Bike Ride will take place on Saturday, May 5. Registration will begin at 8:00 a.m. at 12 N. Front Street (in front of Port City Java between Market and Princess Streets). Mayor Saffo will start the ride at 8:30 a.m.

The ride is a 20-mile (round trip) casual-paced bicycle ride from downtown Wilmington to Wrightsville Beach Park on Wilmington's River to Sea Bicycle Route - North Carolina Bike Route 1.

Refreshments and a drawing for prizes will be at Wrightsville Beach Park at 10 a.m. No need to pre-register. Just bring your bike & your helmet & get ready to ride!

Transportation will be provided by WAVE Transit for those who do not want to bike back to Downtown Wilmington. The New Hanover County Sheriff's Department Bike Patrol, Wilmington Police Department, and Wrightsville Beach Police Department will be on hand to provide traffic assistance.

The River to the Sea Bikeway is an 11-mile, on- and off-road bicycle route that follows the Historic Beach Car Line, which used to carry vacationers from Downtown Wilmington to Wrightsville Beach by trolley. The bikeway is comprised of neighborhood residential streets, off-road multi-use paths, and a few busy arterial roadways.

Last year more than 200 people joined in for the ride. Help set the record for the most people participating in 23 years!
