||The Cavalier Drive stormwater improvement project is nearing completion. Work to install a half-mile long, 5½-foot stormwater drainage pipe along Eastwood Road is expected to be complete next week after landscaping is added.
The $1.6 million project began in August, 2011. The drainage pipe runs from Rogersville Road to King Arthur Drive and carries stormwater away from the Cavalier Drive area to a tributary of Bradley Creek, significantly reducing flooding. In the past, even minor rain events caused flooding in the area.
A section of the Gary Shell Cross-City Trail along Eastwood Road between Rogersville Road and King Arthur Drive had to be temporarily closed while improvements were made. The trail is expected to re-open by the end of this week after final striping is complete.
Improvements to the intersection of Eastwood Road and Military Cutoff are also complete, making it safer for pedestrians and bicyclists to use the trail. Click here to learn more.
