City's 5-year improvement plan underway

The city’s 5-year Maintenance Improvement Plan is well underway.

The additional tax revenue approved in June as part of the 2012-13 budget is already being put to use for the city’s new $41 million, five-year maintenance plan. The funds have been put into a separate account that cannot be used for anything else.

Projects include street and public facility repairs put on hold during the economic downturn, such as paving completed this week on Ridgeway Drive. Paving will continue on Highland Drive, Bordeaux Avenue, Pollocks Way, Emerson Street and Marlboro Street over the next several weeks.

More than $4.8 million is included for badly needed repairs and improvements to the Riverwalk, some of which are now underway. The Church Street Shoreline Stabilization project, reconstruction of the Brooks Building Riverwalk and repairs to three Riverwalk pocket parks are expected to begin in 2013.
