Number of city recycling customers still growing

The number of customers choosing to recycle continues to increase as the second month of the city’s change to a bi-weekly recycling schedule finishes up. City crews have been working overtime to deliver the large blue carts to customers who signed up since carts started being delivered in November. The number of customers choosing to recycle now totals about 21,000, an increase of more than 40% since the city began discussing the new schedule last spring.

Many customers have already requested to swap out the smaller carts for the 95-gallon carts due to the new bi-weekly pick-up schedule.

Existing city crews have been able to absorb the increased customers and additional recycling tonnage for pick-up.

Solid Waste officials report that while participation growth was expected as cart delivery began, the rate of change was faster than expected. The amount of recycling continues to increase as well. To find out what week your recycling is picked up, click here.
