City Council meeting, 6:30 p.m. at City Hall
Items of interest on the agenda included:
- Resolution considering a $325,000 contract to Andrews Consulting Engineers, Inc. for design of the Water Street/Riverfront Park Improvements Project. This project is a compilation of several projects along the riverfront from Market Street to Princess Street. It includes Phase 1 of the existing Riverfront Park Master Plan, which renovates the park from Market Street to Princess Street. The project also includes repairs to the Market Street bulkhead, stormwater repairs at the intersection of Water and Princess Streets, ADA improvements in Riverfront Park, repairs to Water Street between Market and Princess streets, and investigates the possibility adding more restrooms at Riverfront Park.
- Public hearing and ordinance to modify the existing zoning conditions for a planned development on River Road called Riverlights. In 2009, the city annexed just over two miles of property for a mixed use development. Several modifications are being considered, including allowing more residential density and more time for completion of building construction and connector streets.
- Public hearing and ordinance for a new zoning district called UMX, Urban Mixed Use. Criteria for the proposed zoning district were developed over the past year with citizen input gathered from several public meetings. The proposed regulations are designed to encourage reuse and redevelopment of land and buildings located within the 1945 corporate limits. The regulations would encourage the construction of multi-story buildings set close to sidewalks that blend in with existing historic structures. For more information, visit wilmingtonnc.gov/umx.
