City Council Meeting Apr. 2

Items of interest on the agenda included:
  • Consideration of a resolution adopting the Wilmington/New Hanover Comprehensive Greenway Plan. The plan provides a blueprint for a future system of walking and biking trails that connect to existing trails and waterways. the plan was put together with extensive public input gathered in a series of meetings and other activities over the last year. The plan can be viewed at
  • Consideration of a resolution asking the Federal Office of Management and Budget to reconsider the recent designation of Brunswick County as part of the Myrtle Beach metropolitan area instead of Wilmington. The change was made as a part of new data from the US Census Bureau, but the city maintains that Brunswick County has a much stronger tie to Wilmington than Myrtle Beach. For example, the vast majority of Brunswick County residents commute to Wilmington to work rather than Myrtle Beach (4 to 1). The federal designation is important for proper planning and economic development efforts.
