City targets speeders

The city recently purchased seven digital speed signs for placement within neighborhoods to make drivers more aware of their traveling speed and increase the visibility of neighborhood speed limit signs. These are part of an effort to manage and address reported concerns of speeding within residential neighborhoods.

To help with this effort, two stealth radar units were purchased. The stealth radar units do not issue tickets or have a camera, but they can record the speed of the vehicle, the time and date of the speeder and can count traffic. The data provided by the radar units will allow the WPD to target speed enforcement and identify neighborhoods with the most significant speeding issues. The cameras will be moved around neighborhoods throughout the city.

This combined approach of increased awareness and targeted enforcement will be used to help manage vehicular speeds in residential neighborhoods.
