A month-long street paving project in the College Acres area is now underway. The $1.2 million project is the first major roadway contract in the city’s Five-Year Improvement Plan, which includes a $41 million list of projects approved by City Council last year. A much needed repaving of Park Avenue wrapped up this week and crews will address the following streets in the coming weeks.
Five cents of the city’s overall property tax rate supports the five-year plan that includes infrastructure and repair of public facilities that had been put on hold during the economic downturn. The funds have been put into a separate account that cannot be used for anything else. According to the 2012 City Survey, maintenance and infrastructure needs are the top priority for city residents.
Most work will occur between 7 a.m. – 6 p.m. Sporadic lane or full road closures are expected for short periods of time, but every effort will be made to minimize disruptions to traffic and neighborhood access.
A full road closure will be necessary on Rose Avenue near Andover Drive when excavation begins for the stormwater drainage improvement work.
