A small section of Rose Avenue just north of its intersection with Andover Drive will be closed beginning at 9 a.m. on Monday, Aug. 12 as work continues to repave several miles of city streets. The closure will last until Friday, Aug. 16.

Motorists traveling on Rose Avenue may need to use an alternate route (see map to the left), depending on which side of Rose Avenue they need to access. Residents on Andover Drive will be able to turn left onto Rose Avenue.

The closure is necessary so that a large pipe can be installed under the road to improve drainage in the area. After the pipe is installed, the road will be repaved. The city is coordinating repaving work with stormwater and water/sewer improvements in order to minimize traffic disruptions.

Nearby Park Avenue and 52nd Street have already been repaved, and work is currently underway on Oriole Drive (from Racine to Cardinal drives) and Clear Run Drive (from College Acres to Cardinal drives).

The $1.2 million street paving project in the College Acres area is the first major roadway contract in the city’s 5-Year Improvement Plan, which includes a $41 million list of projects approved by City Council last year.

Repaving of the following streets is expected to be complete by the end of September:
  • Oriole Drive from Racine Drive to Cardinal Drive
  • Clear Run Drive from College Acres Drive to Cardinal Drive
  • Mallard Drive from Rill Road to Widgeon Drive
  • Rose Avenue from Riegel Road to Hooker Road
