Tennis Championships a success

     

The Wilmington Adult City Tennis Championship held Aug. 9-11 at the Althea Gibson Tennis Complex @ Empie Park, 3405 Park Avenue was a big success.

 
According to event organizers, the tournament generated almost $76,000. There were 65 participants who played in Men's and Women's singles, doubles and mixed doubles divisions based on skill levels.

Future scheduled tournaments and events include:

  • Aug. 23-24: Port City Girls High School Invitational
  • Sept. 6-8: UNC-W Collegiate Invitational (about 150 collegiate players from all over the nation expected to participate)
  • Sept. 20-22: City's Jr. Fall Classic (about 130 junior players from all over NC expected)
  • Oct. 18-19: Girls High School Conference Championships
  • Oct. 25-26: Trick or Treat Charity Tournament
  • Nov. 7-10 & Nov. 14-17: NC Combo State Championships (over 1,000 participants from across NC expected)
