The US Coast Guard, which owns the property beside Riverfront Park, will make repairs to their property at the same time. Construction will begin in 2014 and is expected to take about a year. The city had expected to start construction in early 2014, but more extensive repairs to the Coast Guard property than originally anticipated means the city's improvements to Riverfront Park won't be able to begin until summer 2014. Work on the two adjoining properties will be closely coordinated between the city and the Coast Guard.
Council directed staff to remove the option of including a trellis on the observation deck of the Riverwalk near the foot of Market Street. Final design and construction drawings will now be completed so that construction can begin in summer 2014.
