Help plan the future Wilmington

Fact: Wilmington will grow by more than 50,000 people over the next 25 years.

Fact: There are only 3,700 acres of buildable land left inside Wilmington's city limits.

Fact: The number of people 55 and older will increase over the next several years, as will the number of renters in Wilmington.

On Sept. 24, interested citizens learned about coming changes such as the facts above and provided input about how the city should deal with those changes.

This was one of several meetings being held by the City of Wilmington to get citizen input for the development of a long-term plan that will serve as a policy foundation to proactively manage the city’s growth and development.

The meeting included a presentation on factors that influence Wilmington's growth, as well as information on an exciting new public input opportunity.

In February, City Council appointed 15 community members to serve on a steering committee that will oversee development of the plan. The city-wide kick-off meeting for the plan was held in May.
