Kenan Fountain lighting

The City of Wilmington has scheduled two demonstrations of lighting improvements for the historic Kenan Fountain – one will be held on Tuesday, Oct. 8 and the other on Tuesday, Oct. 15.

On Oct. 8, Graybar Services, Inc. of Wilmington will demonstrate their proposal at 7:30 p.m. Their improvements are estimated to cost $25,000-$30,000. On Oct. 15, Musco Lighting of Iowa will demonstrate their proposed improvements either during or immediately following the City Council meeting that evening. Their improvements are estimated to cost $50,000-$60,000.

Both demonstrations will occur at the fountain, which is located at the intersection of 5th Avenue and Market Street. Some initial lighting improvements were made several months ago after a car hit the fountain, but the new proposals would provide more extensive, permanent upgrades.

City Council saw a presentation on the two proposals at their Sept. 16 agenda briefing.
