City Council meeting, Nov. 6 at 6:30 p.m. in City Hall
Items of interest included:
- Approved: Award of a design contract for the “Muni” golf course restoration project. The $121,000 design contract will go to John Fought Design Golf Course Architecture of Scottsdale, AZ. This will be the first full repair and restoration of the Muni’s greens since it was constructed in 1926. Once the course is designed, City Council will determine if the renovation will happen all at once or will be split into two phases.
- Continued to Feb. 2014: An ordinance prohibiting known criminal street gang members from entering public parks. This item was continued from the October 1 meeting and passage is not recommended at this time.
- Approved: An economic incentive payment of $121,563 to PPD. A 2005 incentive agreement with PPD stipulated that if PPD invested $80 million in the private development of a world headquarters office building complex and provide 857 additional jobs by October 2013, they would be eligible for an incentive payment of up to $125,000.
- Approved: Four ordinances that, combined, allow the city to accept $623,200 in grant funding from NC DOT to construct a multi-use path along Park avenue from Empie Park to Kerr Avenue. This requires a local match in city funds of $231,600.
