On Wednesday, November 13, UNCW and the City of Wilmington will host a panel of UNCW faculty experts who will discuss gun violence.
The meeting will be held from 7-8:30 p.m. in the CIS Building on the UNCW campus, Room 1008. The forum is free of charge and members of the community and media are invited to attend.
City Councilman Dr. Earl Sheridan, professor and chair of UNCW’s Department of Public and International Affairs, will introduce the discussion. The moderator is Dr. Aaron King, also from UNCW’s Public and International Affairs Department. The other panelists are: Drs. Craig Burnett (Public and International Affairs); Robert Blundo (School of Social Work); Cecil Willis (Sociology and Criminology) and Donyell Roseboro (Watson College of Education).
This is the second of three to four public meetings with the city will host with local non-profit and business stakeholders to identify short and long term-strategies that can be implemented to help reduce gang violence in the community. From these sessions, a series of recommendations for action by public policy makers, including elected officials and leaders of private corporations and non-profits, will be generated.
