The downtown tree lighting will take place on Friday, Nov. 29 at the corner of north Water and Princess streets with holiday entertainment beginning at 5:30 p.m., followed by the tree lighting at approximately 6:25 p.m. Carolers will be on hand to entertain and vendors will sell arts and crafts.
Santa will arrive shortly thereafter and will be available for visits. Families are encouraged to bring cameras for a photo opportunity with Santa.
The location of the 30-foot artificial tree had to be changed this year due to load restrictions placed in Riverfront Park in advance of planned repairs by the city and US Coast Guard in 2014. The Menorah provided by the Chabad of Wilmington meets the load restrictions and can be placed in the park, but the tree is too heavy.
The event is a partnership between the Downtown Business Alliance (DBA) and the City of Wilmington’s Recreation & Downtown Services Division.
