Randall Pkwy now 4 lanes

The City of Wilmington held a ribbon-cutting ceremony for the Randall Parkway widening project on Dec. 18. The road is expected to fully reopen to traffic in the first week of January - months ahead of schedule.

The widening of Randall alleviates heavy traffic on nearby Kerr Avenue and College Road and adds capacity for future traffic growth. The project also extends the Gary Shell Cross-City Trail from just past the Randall pond bridge to Marlboro Drive and adds bike lanes on both sides of the road between Collegiate Drive and College road.

The middle section of Randall, from Marlboro Drive, across Kerr Ave, and up to Collegiate Drive, will get the Cross-City Trail when the NC DOT constructs the Kerr Avenue widening project in 2015.

About half of the Randall project’s $6 million budget comes from federal and state monies, with most of the remaining funding coming from the 2006 voter-approved transportation bond.
