City office closures

City of Wilmington offices will be closed Dec. 24-26 for the holidays. Trash service will run on a regular schedule. City recycling customers who are on the BLUE schedule and normally have their recycling collected on Tuesday or Thursday should place their recycling containers curbside by 7:30 a.m. Trash is not normally collected on Wednesdays.

Tips for city holiday trash & recycling pick-up

Trash
Normally, the city charges for excess trash pickup that does not fit in the trash cart, but city customers will not be charged for excess trash on the FIRST scheduled trash pickup from Dec. 26-Jan. 1. After that, customers will need to purchase stickers for any extra trash that does not fit in their trash cart. A minimum of 12 stickers can be purchased by calling 341-7875.

Recycling
Remember that a lot of holiday debris such as cardboard is recyclable and can be put in the Big Blue carts. Excess recycling that won’t fit in the blue carts can be put at the curb in a box, bin or paper bag and it will be picked up at no charge. Please break down and flatten cardboard boxes. Foil wrapping paper is NOT recyclable, but all other wrapping paper may be recycled.

The new 2014 recycling calendar is available on the city’s website: wilmingtonnc.gov/recycling
