The City of Wilmington will hold a public meeting to present the greens restoration design for the Wilmington Municipal Golf Course on Thursday, Jan. 9 at 6 p.m. in Halyburton Park. The park is located at 4099 S. 17th Street.
The presentation will be followed by a question/answer session to solicit public feedback on the design.
The course was originally designed by Donald Ross in 1926 and completed in 1929. Constant use over the years (on average 59,000 rounds per year) has taken its toll on the greens, making them smaller and rounder and not in keeping with the original design.
In Nov. 2013, City Council awarded the $121,000 design contract to John Fought Design Golf Course Architecture. Council is expected to decide if the renovation will happen all at once or will be split into two phases at their Jan. 21 meeting.
