New city park underway

Construction of Seagate Park, located at 6001 Mariner Lane (formerly Hinton Avenue), is underway.

The park is being built on a one-acre parcel of land located in the Seagate neighborhood. It will serve as a memorial to the original property owners, the late Edward John Haneman (“Captain” Eddy Haneman) and his wife Mary Haneman, who were well known in area for sport fishing/recreation in the 1950s-1990s. The Hanemans donated the land for the park to the city.

When complete, the park will include a playground, benches, walking trail, landscaping, a memorial plaque to acknowledge the donation of the land and will be handicap accessible. The playground has been installed, and crews are now working to build the walking trail and install fencing and landscaping.

The project is expected to be complete in March.
