The Wilmington Fire Department reminds citizens that smoke detectors should be replaced every ten years, and batteries should be replaced twice a year.
The easiest way to remember to do this is to change smoke detector batteries when changing the time on clocks. Since Daylight Saving Time begins this weekend, it's also time to put fresh batteries in smoke detectors.
Anyone needing assistance with smoke detectors should call the WFD. They can help with battery replacement, testing or even the installation of smoke alarms.
