The City of Wilmington is reviewing citizen input on a proposal about redeveloping the land where the city’s Water Street parking deck is currently located.
Citizens had until Mar. 14 to complete a five-question online survey or they could attend a public input meeting that was held on March 12.
On Feb. 18, City Council heard recommendations about how best to use the property to generate economic growth while also providing adequate public parking and some public open space on the small site. Urban development experts recommend a mixed-use development that would include parking, residential, retail and public open space.
On March 18, City Council is expected to consider entering into an agreement with UNC School of Government's Development Finance Initiative (DFI) in which DFI will solicit proposals from developers who would develop the property to include parking, residential and some retail.
