Tuesday, March 18, City Council meeting, 6:30 p.m., City Hall
Items of interest on the agenda include:
- A presentation on the proposed redevelopment plan for the Water Street parking deck. The city hired the UNC–Chapel Hill’s School of Government Development Finance Initiative (DFI) to determine the best use of this property, from a public interest and economic development perspective. DFI will present additional information and recommendations to supplement their initial presentation last month.
- A resolution for an agreement with Wilmington Downtown Inc. (WDI) to utilize $30,000 in city parking marketing funds to continue implementation of the “Bring it downtown” marketing plan.
- A resolution authorizing an additional $800,000 to pay private haulers to help the city clean up the debris left over from last month’s ice storm. This will bring the total cleanup cost to $1.4 million to remove up to 125,000 cubic yards of debris created by the storm. Funding for emergencies such as this is set aside in the city’s budget each year.
- A resolution for an agreement with NCDOT to make streetscape improvements along 17th street near Market Street. NCDOT will provide $200,000 and the city will provide the additional $250,000 (already budgeted) for the project. The improvements will reduce travel speeds, straighten the driving lanes, and improve pedestrian crossings on 17th Street between Wrightsville Avenue and Princess Place Drive.
