On Saturday, March 22, the City of Wilmington will hold the Green Spring Carnival at Halyburton Park from 11 a.m.-4 p.m. The event is designed to encourage recycling at all ages and will include games, activities, exhibits from local businesses and a recycled art gallery featuring local artists and UNCW students.
One of the ways more recycling will be encouraged at city parks is through more than 20 large recycling containers that have recently been placed at Halyburton and Empie parks, the Municipal Golf Course, Legion Stadium and the Greenfield Lake Amphitheater. The containers were purchased through a grant from NC Department of Environment and Natural Resources.
Over the last several months, a poster contest was held at area schools and winning entries that will be displayed on the park recycling containers will be announced by Wilmington Mayor Bill Saffo at 1 p.m. This event is free and open to the public.
