Riverwalk improvements continue

The City of Wilmington’s Riverwalk is the city’s #1 tourist attraction and work is currently underway to maintain existing sections and extend the Riverwalk to the north. When complete, the Riverwalk will stretch 1.75 miles between the Cape Fear Memorial Bridge and the Isabel Holmes Bridge. The work is funded through the city’s 5-year infrastructure improvement plan.

Northern Riverwalk

A new section of Riverwalk is beginning to take shape between Harnett and Cowan streets, along the edge of the future Northern Waterfront Park. Construction on this section of Riverwalk which began last fall, is expected to be completed in June. The nearby recently completed Marina section is now open to the public.

Southern Riverwalk

An older section of the Riverwalk, located at Chandlers Wharf and Ann Street, is currently undergoing repairs to improve stabilization. In conjunction with the repairs, drainage improvements are being constructed to help improve area flooding that occurs during heavy rains. Repairs are expected to be complete by the end of June.
