The City of Wilmington’s Municipal Golf Course is now fully closed for renovations to restore golf course greens, fairway bunkers and the practice putting green. Construction on the 10 holes located on the west side of Pine Grove Drive began May 5, and the remainder of the course closed May 12.
While restoration work is underway by a contractor, city golf course staff are repairing other parts of the course, such as the rough, fairways and tee boxes. The clubhouse and pro shop will remain open on a limited basis during construction.
The greens and surrounds are being tilled and irrigation and drainage improvements are being installed. In addition, rough shaping of the new greens is complete on holes 6 and 16, as pictured above. Construction of the new greens is expected to be complete in July, then the course will be re-sodded so grass can grow over the summer. The course is expected to be ready for play this fall.
