Yard waste pick-up delayed

Due to maintenance issues with older city trucks and the high volume of yard waste being generated this time of year, the city's yard waste pick-up is running 2-3 days behind. Currently, half of the yard waste trucks are out of service but city mechanics are working overtime to get the trucks back into operation and the pick-up crews are working overtime to get caught up.

The older trucks are scheduled to be replaced in the recommended FY 2014-2015 budget.

In the meantime, the city reminds residents to follow these tips for preparing yardwaste and vegetative debris for pickup:

  • Limbs cannot exceed six (6) inches in diameter and four (4) feet in length and must be placed neatly for pickup.
  • Loose items, such as leaves, pine straw or small cuttings, must be containerized in bags or personal containers not to exceed 35 gallons in size.
  • Yard waste placed on tarps, in wheel barrows or on trailers will not be collected.
  • Contracted work performed by tree service companies or independent contractors will not be collected by city crews; It is the responsibility of the contractor to remove and properly dispose of debris.

Please remember to follow the above yard waste tips so that yard waste can be properly picked up. Note that large piles will take longer because there is only one truck with the specialized equipment needed to pick these up. The city appreciates your patience.
