The number of citizens biking to work more than doubled during this year’s Bike To Work Week, which took place May 12-18. The Wilmington Metropolitan Planning Organization (WMPO) coordinated the event and surpassed all their goals for the week. UNCW had the most participants (26), followed by New Hanover County Government (14) and the City of Wilmington (13). A total of 45 local companies participated in all, almost double the number that participated last year.
A few fun facts from the week:
- 3,800 miles biked
- 190 gallons of gas saved
- 54 pounds lost
- $2,225 saved in commuting costs
