Slope shaping on hole #1 at the Wilmington Municipal Golf Course
The US Open started June 12 in Pinehurst on a Donald Ross-designed course. Maybe the City of Wilmington’s Donald Ross course could be a contender for the Open in the future when renovation work happening now is complete!
Work to renovate the greens, bunkers and practice putting green to the original Donald Ross specifications continues on schedule. So far, rough-in shaping of all the greens is now complete, and irrigation work will be finished over the next several days. Final bunker shaping and detailed slope work on the greens – which have doubled in size – is now underway, along with drainage improvements.
Crews expect to begin laying sod on the approaches to the greens and bunkers the week of June 23. After all construction work is complete in early July, the greens will be sprigged with grass. The course should be ready for play in October after the grass has had a chance to grow in.
