Items of interest on the agenda included:
- Approved. A vote to establish July 8 as a public hearing date for a potential transportation bond. Council will make a final determination about whether or not to move forward with the bond referendum, which would be on the Nov. 4 ballot, after the public hearing. While only $44 million would be borrowed, the city would leverage existing funds to complete an entire package of projects worth $55 million, as published previously. Citizens continually rank traffic among the highest of concerns, with recent emphasis being placed on pedestrian and bicycle facilities. Background on this item can be found here.
- Approved. Second and final vote to approve the FY 2014-2015 budget. Highlights of the proposed budget can be found here.
- Approved. Vote to use $88,549 in drug forfeiture funds to complete replacement of downtown cameras. This new system will enhance the Wilmington Police Department’s ability to monitor downtown areas in real time.
- Approved. Approval to purchase 18 vehicles totaling $3 million for solid waste pickup, including six trucks needed to replace the aging yard waste trucks that have caused much of the pick-up delay over the last few weeks.
