Items of interest on the agenda included:
- APPROVED: A second reading on amendments to the city's UMX (Urban Mixed Use) zoning code.
- APPROVED: An ordinance applying the UMX zoning designation to the "Galleria" shopping center property at 6800 Wrightsville Avenue. This parcel used to be part of Wrightsville Beach but the property owner asked the city to annex it, which it did, in coordination with Wrightsville Beach and the State of NC. This ordinance was approved on first reading at the previous Council meeting.
- APPROVED: An ordinance amending the city's land use code to include several classes of breweries. This will establish which zoning districts breweries are allowed in as well as the prescribed conditions for each category. The city has received numerous requests from craft brewers desiring to locate or relocate in Wilmington. In response to these inquires, the city gathered extensive public input on this issue and developed the proposed set of recommendations, which have been approved by the Planning Commission.
- APPROVED: An ordinance accepting an $1,800 donation from the NC Coastal Land Trust to help with maintaining the Stanley Rehder Carnivorous Plant garden at Alderman Park
