City's long-range growth plan moves to next phase
About 75 people came out to Halyburton Park on June 25 to view six sample maps showing different ideas for how Wilmington can manage an expected rate of growth of 52 percent by 2040.

Sod goes in at Muni

Sod began arriving by the truckload for installation at the city's Municipal Golf Course on June 24. Crews will be installing sod and grass sprigs over the next few weeks as the course undergoes renovations to greens and bunkers.

Public input meeting for city redevelopment

On Wednesday, June 25, citizens are invited to drop in anytime between 1-8 p.m. at Halyburton Park to get information and provide input on each of the examples for long-term growth. The examples were developed from citizen input collected to date. Staff will be on hand to answer questions and will give brief presentations at 2, 4 and 6 p.m.

Public meeting for Clear Run residents
The City of Wilmington will hold a public meeting from 6-8 p.m. on June 25 to discuss a drainage improvement project planned for the Clear Run area. The meeting will be held at College Park Elementary School, located at 5001 Oriole Drive.

FREE midnight basketball program at MLK

The city's FREE Midnight Basketball Program will kick off starting Friday, June 20 at 8 p.m. The program will take place from 8 p.m. to midnight each Friday through August 22 at the MLK, Jr. Community Center for youths age 12‐18.

WPD to apply for $1.2 million grant

On June 17, Police Chief Ralph Evangelous presented a plan to the Wilmington City Council to expand the successful community policing program. During the meeting, Council authorized the city to apply for a $1.2 million community policing grant.

City saves money with LED lights
The City of Wilmington has just finished converting more than 200 streetlights to environmentally-friendly LED lights, which will save more than $10,000 a year. LED lights also reduce greenhouse gas emissions, in keeping with the US Conference of Mayors Climate Protection Initiative approved by City Council.  [Read more...]
