Holiday Parade on Dec. 8

Join the City of Wilmington for the 11th Annual Holiday Parade on Sunday, Dec. 8 in historic downtown Wilmington! The parade will begin at N. Front and Walnut streets at 5:40 p.m. The reviewing stand will be in Riverfront Park in the 00 block of N. Water Street.

Traditional tree lighting

The Rotary Wheel at Greenfield Lake is the new site for the city’s long-standing tree lighting tradition. The celebration will kick off at 5:30 p.m. followed by the tree lighting and Santa's arrival. At 6:30 p.m., the holiday movie “A Christmas Story” will be shown at the Greenfield Amphitheater. The entire event is free and open to the public.

Land purchased for northern riverfront park
On December 2, as scheduled, the City of Wilmington finalized the purchase of 6.63 acres along the northern downtown riverfront for a passive public park. The property, previously owned by Riverfront Holdings II, is part of a larger piece of the former Almont Shipping Company property. [Read more...]

Cross-City Trail groundbreaking
On Monday, Dec. 2nd, the city will begin construction of one of the last remaining sections of the Gary Shell Cross-City Trail. A groundbreaking ceremony will be held at 3 p.m. at Wade Park, located at 3500 Bethel Road. [Read more...]
Community meeting on gang violence
On Monday, Dec. 2nd the City of Wilmington and UNCW will partner with CFCC to host the third community conversation about ways to local reduce gang/gun violence. The meeting will be held from 5:30-7:30 p.m. at CFCC’s Union Station on Front Street, 5th Floor. [Read more...]
City offices closed for Thanksgiving

City offices will be closed on Thursday, Nov. 28 and Friday, Nov. 29 for the Thanksgiving holiday. City trash customers who normally have their trash, yard waste and recycling collected on Thursdays should place all items curbside on Wednesday, Nov. 27 by 7:30 a.m. instead. Friday pick up will run as normal.

Downtown tree lighting Nov. 29

The historic downtown tree lighting will take place on Friday, Nov. 29 at the parking lot on the corner of Water and Princess streets, with entertainment starting at 5:30 p.m. This event is presented by the Downtown Business Alliance (DBA)  and the City of Wilmington‘s Recreation & Downtown Services Division.
