Convention Center hotel breaks ground
Harmony Hospitality broke ground on their 186-room, $36 million full-service Embassy Suites Hotel next to the Wilmington Convention Center. The privately-owned hotel will include a full-service restaurant, rooftop bar, pool and additional meeting space. The hotel is expected to open in the spring of 2017.

New Hanover, Brunswick oppose sales tax legislation
New Hanover and Brunswick officials joined together to speak out against proposed legislation that would redistribute sales taxes in the state. Cities and counties with tourist destinations such as New Hanover and Brunswick counties stand to lose the most under legislation currently being considered by the NC General Assembly. The legislation would change how the state distributes a portion of sales taxes collected when people buy clothing, building materials and other goods. [Read more...]

Tour of historic buildings

On Friday, March 13, Wilmington Mayor Bill Saffo and other area elected officials joined Susan Kluttz, Secretary of the NC Department of Cultural Resources, on a tour of historic buildings in downtown Wilmington. The tour highlighted various buildings that have been renovated with historic preservation tax credits, both residential and commercial.
