New city park underway
Construction on Seagate Park is underway. The park, located at 6001 Mariner Lane, will act as a memorial to the late Edward John Haneman and his wife Mary who donated the land to the city. The park is expected to be complete in March. [Read more...]

Holiday Parade on Dec. 8

Join the City of Wilmington for the 11th Annual Holiday Parade on Sunday, Dec. 8 in historic downtown Wilmington! The parade will begin at N. Front and Walnut streets at 5:40 p.m. The reviewing stand will be in Riverfront Park in the 00 block of N. Water Street.

Traditional tree lighting

The Rotary Wheel at Greenfield Lake is the new site for the city’s long-standing tree lighting tradition. The celebration will kick off at 5:30 p.m. followed by the tree lighting and Santa's arrival. At 6:30 p.m., the holiday movie “A Christmas Story” will be shown at the Greenfield Amphitheater. The entire event is free and open to the public.

Cross-City Trail groundbreaking
On Monday, Dec. 2nd, the city will begin construction of one of the last remaining sections of the Gary Shell Cross-City Trail. A groundbreaking ceremony will be held at 3 p.m. at Wade Park, located at 3500 Bethel Road. [Read more...]
Downtown tree lighting Nov. 29

The historic downtown tree lighting will take place on Friday, Nov. 29 at the parking lot on the corner of Water and Princess streets, with entertainment starting at 5:30 p.m. This event is presented by the Downtown Business Alliance (DBA)  and the City of Wilmington‘s Recreation & Downtown Services Division.

New holiday tradition!

The Rotary Wheel at Greenfield Lake is the new site for the city’s long-standing holiday tree lighting tradition, including a celebration coordinated with the local Rotary Club. The old tree at the Sweeney Water Plant has lost almost all its foliage, is no longer capable of supporting lights and has limited access.

Cross-City Trail Public Mtg
A public meeting will be held on November 14, 6 p.m. at Halyburton Park to discuss the John D. Barry/Wade Park Cross-City Trail construction project. The meeting will provide information about the upcoming construction project on South 17th Street, Waltmoor Road and Bethel Road that will begin in early December. [Read more...]
Big weekend for tennis
There will be limited court availability at Empie Park tennis courts from Nov. 7-10 and Nov. 14-17 due to the United States Tennis Association's NC Combo Doubles State Championships. This will be the third year in a row Wilmington was selected to host the event. [Read more...]
