City’s 275th birthday celebration
The City of Wilmington is partnering with the Star News, the Arts Council of Wilmington/New Hanover County and several other organizations to host a street fair birthday celebration on Saturday, Sept. 27 to recognize the city’s 275th birthday. Section of Riverwalk to close
A section of the Riverwalk behind the Brooks Building on Water Street is closing during the week of Sept. 15 for safety reasons. Although the city owns the Riverwalk, owners of the Brooks Building own the deteriorating concrete platform that supports it. [Read more...]
Water St paving underway
City crews are applying temporary pavement and patches on Water Street between Princess and Walnut streets as part of the city’s streets maintenance program. While paving is underway, there will be intermittent, temporary lane closures on Water Street, but traffic flow will be maintained.  [Read more...]

Wilmington a Coast Guard city again

On Nov. 26, the City of Wilmington became a Coast Guard City for the third time. US Congressman Mike McIntyre, Wilmington Mayor Bill Saffo and representatives from the US Coast Guard were on hand for the recertification ceremony which took place in City Hall.

Land purchase for Riverfront Park approved
On Nov. 19, City Council approved the purchase of 6.63 acres along the northern downtown riverfront for a public park for $3.9 million. The placement of a public park along the riverfront is consistent with the Vision 2020 Downtown Plan. [Read more...]
