The Northwest Patrol Division covers areas generally north and west of Kerr Ave, Shipyard Blvd and Carolina Beach Rd. The division is divided into four geographic policing based districts. The four districts offer a variety of retail, business, residential, and commercial properties which creates unique challenges for our agency. The Northwest Division is staffed by 1 Captain and an Administrative Support Technician, 5 Lieutenants, 9 Sergeants and approximately 80 Corporals and officers. Each Lieutenant is assigned to one area or district of responsibility. Their duties include, but not limited to, tracking crime trends and assigning personnel accordingly, acting as liaison between the community and the department and management of officer personnel. The officers are assigned to four 12 hour permanent shifts which cover the 24 hour period. Under the Geographic Based Policing model, officers are assigned to specific areas in their district for routine patrol, answering calls for service, acting as community coordinators for proactive police response, and conducting preliminary investigations.

Downtown- serves the area that is defined as Castle St. to the intersection of Front and Davis; also, 3rd St west to the Cape Fear River.
 

District 1 – serves the area that includes the Downtown Business District from Castle St. to Isabelle Holmes Bridge. Bordered by 3^rd St. to Market, Market to N. 23^rd St.to the northern city limits at Martin Luther King Blvd.

 

District 2 – serves the area of N. 23^rd St. at Market St., north to Martin Luther King Pkwy, Martin Luther King Pkwy east to N. Kerr Ave., city limits of N. Kerr Ave. south to S. Kerr Ave. and S. College Rd., S. College Rd. south to Oleander Dr., Oleander Dr. west to Dawson St. extension, Dawson St. extension east to Wrightsville Ave., Wrightsville east to Colonial Dr., Colonial Dr. north to Forest Hills Dr., Forest Hills north to Market St.

 

District 3 – serves the area starting at 3^rd & Market, East on Market to Forest Hills Dr. to Wrightsville Ave. West on Wrightsville Ave. to 17^th St. 17^th St. to Greenfield St. and West on Greenfield to 3^rd St.

 

District 4 - serves the area of the Cape Fear River between Independence Blvd. and Greenfield St., Greenfield St. to S. 17^th St., S. 17^th St. to Dawson St., Dawson to Oleander Dr., Oleander to S. College Rd., S. College Rd. to Shipyard Blvd., Shipyard to Independence Blvd., Independence Blvd. south to the Cape Fear River.
