
Wilmington Police Department vehicles are equipped with digital in-car video recording systems, which are maintained by IT personnel. Police vehicles are also equipped with Mobile Data Terminals (MDT), used to complete reports. Computer Aided Dispatch (CAD), mapview and District Crime Information (DCI) capabilities. IT staff within the Support Services Division maintain the Mobile Data Terminal's (MDT), installs software, troubleshoots connectivity through aircards.
The IT section is supervised by a Police Sergeant, who also maintains the equipment. The Sergeant has the responsibility of insuring that each Police vehicle is equipped with the proper equipment. The Sergeant fulfills administrative duties within the unit.
The Systems Analyst's primary role is to act as a System Administrator for:
- Security Monitoring System
- Inventory Control System for Vehicles
- In-car Computers and their applications including Automatic Vehicle Locator (AVL)
The Systems Analyst also acts as a liaison between vendors and members of the Wilmington Police Department. The Systems Analyst research problems, work on solutions, and make recommendations to the WPD regarding technological issues.
