We will visit Lake Mattamuskeet NWR, home to thousands of Tundra Swan and Snow Geese in the winter, to observe a variety of migratory waterfowl on Friday. We will stay overnight at the Eastern 4-H center in Columbia, N.C. Friday night, a 1.5 hour presentation will provide an overview of Eastern N.C. wildlife with a focus on Black Bears.  Pocosin Lakes is home to two endangered species, the red wolf and the red-cockaded woodpecker, and one of the largest populations of American black bears in North America. wildlife and birds.
