Public input meeting on city's trees
The City of Wilmington held a meeting on Nov. 30 to get input about protecting, restoring and increasing Wilmington’s tree canopy. This was the public’s second and last opportunity to provide input for this study.
The City of Wilmington was one of only two NC cities selected by the NC Forest Service to participate in a federal study to look at how urban trees can be used to improve the quality of our local waterways. At the meeting, participants will hear the city will get input from citizens on:
- the city’s current tree coverage;
- specific locations in Wilmington that need more trees;
- tree-related practices that could be implemented but are not currently in place.
When completed, this project will help Wilmington map, evaluate, protect and increase its urban forest, including recommendations on related land use and stormwater regulations.
